Last weekend Patty spent a couple of fantastic days at the Lycoming factory in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Lycoming produces our super powerful AEIO-580 engine, and Patty had a chance to talk to people in the plant who had actually assembled her engine. Lycoming employees are a proud group, and some of them are 4th generation Lycoming employees. We even met kids in Williamsport who are looking forward to working for Lycoming some day, as did their parents, grandparents and in some cases great-grandparents!
Friday was Patty Wagstaff Day with a plant tour, an autograph session and finally, a talk to the employees. She was joined by airshow pilots Michael Goulian and Mike Mancuso who answered questions and discussed their airplanes and engines.
Saturday was a private airshow and fun day for Lycoming employees at the Williamsport Airport. Michael Goulian gave rides to raffle winners in a two seat Extra 300L, and Matt Chapman and Mike Mancuso flew solo aerobatic routines followed by a great formation routine.
Thank you Lycoming for everything you do for us. For more information about Lycoming, go to our web site sponsor page and click on their logo!

As the season winds down we look forward to toasting ourselves with the annual bottle or two, or why not go exponential and open a magnum? of Crystal (champagne, and no Crystal is not just for rappers, it's our favorite too...), to celebrate the end of another long, hot, exhausting, exhilirating at times and always exciting, sad but somehow-we-still-find-the-joy, airshow season.
Highlights of our Season:
- Getting to know the fine people at Cirrus Design and have the privelege to fly the beautiful, smooth and safe Cirrus SR-22
- Flying upside down at Paris in the Raytheon T-6B in front of some of the biggest airshow crowds we've ever seen
- Flying from over the channel from the UK to Le Bourget, Paris, in the T6-B
- Giving Michael his BFR in the Super Cub over Tsavo, Kenya
- Flying EAA AirVenture once again and looking forward to future years
- Flying for our friends and fans all over the USA
And too many more great times to mention.
We are grateful! For friends - always. Friends within and outside of airshows keep us going. Thanks to Amanda for taking such great care of the babies (Cassidy, Ripley, Buddha, Bunny); for Paula and Stacy and everyone at Bridlebourne for helping us move, and that includes Pony and Eya for moving the trailer and Eya, you clean bird cages really well! To Dr. X, Forest and the whole team at Emory, Thank you. Patty is flying airshows and riding horses. On the road, our favorite "grunt" Big B. Your help has been invaluable and whether you like it or not, you'll always be part of the crew. Andy, you're the best! Rich, Denise, Dougie and everyone who crews for us at shows. And, of course, everyone else, we are grateful for your help and friendship.
For fans - we have the best fans in the world. Thank you for the e-mails, the pictures you send, the good wishes and the great words about our airshows. We always love to hear from you and hope you continue to enjoy our airshows for years to come. Thank you!
And, to our sponsors! Without them we could not fly.
This year we are so excited to begin a relationship with Cirrus Design, maker of THE best selling airplane in the world today, the Cirrus. From Patty's first flight in the Cirrus at the St. Augustine Airport, she knew this airplane was something very special. Designed for a new generation of pilots, it is fast, handles beautifully and has gone to extraordinary measures to make it the safest, cleanest and most fun airplane to fly. We love our Cirrus.

Cirrus Aircraft, our new sponsor, has provided us with one of the nicest airplanes we've flown - a Cirrus SR22. Patty's new ride is the 2000th production model and so it's N# is an appropriate N2000M! Flying with Cirrus instructor, Rob Haig, Patty spent time in Duluth training in her Cirrus - VFR and IFR, getting used to the systems, the beautiful glass cockpit, and he handling characteristics of the airplane. After training was partially completed in Duluth, Patty and Rob flew to home base in St. Augustine, via DuPage, Athens and then St. Augustine.
We are thrilled to be flying this beautiful new airplane and to meet and talk to other Cirrus owners.
See you on the road!

Patty will be performing in the Heart of Florida Air Show on September 24-25, 2005. We are excited about this airshow because it's close to home and we expect to see lots of our local friends there. For the past several years, organizers have held the airshow in Williston, Florida, near Gainesville, but moved the airshow to a larger airport so they could host the US Navy Blue Angels.
For more information about the Heart of Florida Airshow 2005, please visit our website at www.gainesvilleairshow.com.
On September 13, 2005, Patty was honored to receive the Air Force Association Lifetime Achievement Award for 2005. Patty was presented with the award at the 58th Air Force Anniversary Dinner in Washington, DC, along with two other award recipients, Senator Daniel Inouye and Dr. William J. Perry, former Secretary of Defense.
For more information about the Air Force Association, please see their website at www.afa.org.
Joining her for dinner was Kate Dougherty, representing Cirrus Aircraft. Thanks Kate and thank you, AFA.

As we sit out the remnants of Katrina in Cleveland, Ohio, we are watching TV and the unfolding, unbelievable events of Katrina. When Patty flew from St. Augustine to Wichita last week on her way to the Wichita Festival of Flight, she passed over the panhandle of Florida and eastern Mississippi in hot, muggy, hazy, but calm weather. It seems surreal that parts of that area are now under water. We are concerned about the people who are still being rescued and about all of the abandoned pets and animals that are frightened and hungry. Last night we went online and donated money to both the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS.ORG) and the ASPCA (ASPCA.ORG).
On a more positive note :) the airshow season is in full swing and going well. This weekend - Labor Day weekend - is a really busy airshow weekend....Cleveland, St. Louis, Patuxent River, Toronto.
We are headed to the NAS Patuxent River airshow...two years ago we flew the airshow and it was rained out the entire weekend. This year will be much better!

OSHKOSH, WISC. (July 25, 2005) For many years the name Patty Wagstaff has been synonymous with precision aerobatics. Today CIRRUS announced that the innovative airplane manufacturer of the world’s best-selling airplane – the SR22 – will be the new sponsor for airshow superstar Patty Wagstaff.
“We’re beyond thrilled to now have Patty as part of the CIRRUS team,” said company co-founder and Executive Vice President Dale Klapmeier. “By anyone’s standards, she’s one of the most respected pilots in the world. Her demanding airshow performances have been seen live and on television by millions of people, creating tremendous interest in General Aviation.”
"I am really excited about my new relationship with Cirrus. After my first flight in a Cirrus SR22, I realized that this company is committed to designing airplanes for a new generation of pilots,” said Wagstaff.
Patty Wagstaff is a three-time U.S. National Aerobatic Champion and the first woman ever to win this title. A six-time member of the U.S. Aerobatic Team that competes in Olympic level competition, she’s taken gold, silver and bronze medals.

“CIRRUS is committed to opening the skies and making personal aircraft transportation available to everybody,” said John M. Bingham, executive vice president of sales & marketing. “Patty’s precision flying is truly awe-inspiring and has done so much to generate interest in flying. CIRRUS is very proud to be her new sponsor and together we can do great things to continue to make aviation even more popular around the world.”
Patty Wagstaff’s ‘new ride’ will be the technologically advanced SR22, which she’ll pilot to and from airshows, and fly for personal appearances.
Said Wagstaff, “the Cirrus' design, construction, performance and extraordinary safety features make it truly a leading edge airplane that is wonderful to fly."
